About Us

Welcome to Seymour Solar, LLC, the leading manufacturer of safe solar filters for telescopes, cameras, binoculars and spotting scopes. We are a family-owned and operated business that was founded in 2007 by Dr. Stephen Seymour, a passionate astronomer and solar enthusiast. For almost two decades we have been providing premium solar filters to astronomers and photographers all over the world. NASA and various observatories have used and continue to use our solar filters. Our mission is to provide high-quality solar filters that allow you to safely observe and photograph the sun’s surface and features, such as sunspots and eclipses.

Our solar filters are made of two types of materials: Helios Solar Glass and Hyperion Solar Film. Both are rated ND5, which means that they block 99.999% of the sunlight, making them safe for viewing the sun. Helios Solar Glass is a premium glass that has a reflective coating on both sides to enhance the contrast and clarity of the sun’s image. Hyperion Solar Film is a thin film that can be used under magnification and is suitable for any telescope, refractor, binoculars, view finders, spotting scopes, cameras, or cell phone cameras. Both materials are mounted into an aluminum outer cell, which is durable and lightweight, and fits most spotting scopes.

We are based in Escalante, Utah, a beautiful town surrounded by natural wonders, such as the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument and the Bryce Canyon National Park. We moved here in 2012 from Reno, NV where we started our business. We love the clear skies and the friendly community of Escalante, and we are proud to support the local economy and environment.

We are excited to share our passion for the sun with you, and we hope that you will enjoy our products as much as we do. Whether you are a beginner or a professional, a photographer or a stargazer, we have the perfect solar filter for you. Browse our online store, or contact us if you have any questions or feedback. We would love to hear from you. Thank you for choosing Seymour Solar, LLC.
